Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Restaurantr (“the app,” “we,” “us”), provided by Shmoopi LLC, handles information when you use the app. By using Restaurantr, you agree to the practices described here.

What we collect

We keep data collection to the minimum needed to make the app work:

• Location. With your permission, the app uses your precise location to find restaurants near you and to show them on the map. If you don't grant location access, the app falls back to a default area so you can still use it.
• An anonymous device identifier. To let you create and join polls without signing up, the app uses anonymous authentication tied to your device. This isn't linked to your name, email, or a personal account.
• Your polls and votes. The polls you create and the choices you swipe are stored so the app can tally results and show them to your group in real time.
• Basic app settings. Preferences you set are saved on your device so the app remembers them.

What we do not do

• We do not show ads.
• We do not track you across other apps or websites.
• We do not sell or rent your information to anyone.
• We do not ask for your name, email, or social login to use the app.

How we use information

The information above is used only to:

• Find and display nearby restaurants for your poll.
• Let you create polls, invite friends, and vote.
• Calculate and show live results to everyone in a poll.
• Send optional notifications (for example, when friends join or voting finishes) if you choose to enable them.
• Keep the app reliable and improve how it works.

Sharing with a poll

Restaurantr is built for groups, so votes contribute to a shared result that people in the same poll can see. Results are shown as combined tallies for the group's decision. Anyone with a poll's invite link can join that poll and take part in voting, so share links with people you trust.

Service providers

We use trusted infrastructure providers to run the app — including Google (Firebase) for secure data storage and notifications, and Google Places for restaurant information. These providers process data on our behalf to deliver the app's features and are not permitted to use it for their own advertising.

Permissions you control

• Location — used to find nearby restaurants. Optional, and adjustable anytime in your device Settings.
• Notifications — used for optional updates about your polls. Off unless you allow them.
• Camera — used only if you choose to scan a poll's QR code to join.

You can change any of these permissions at any time in your device's Settings.

Data retention

Poll and vote data is kept so results remain available to your group while a poll is active. Because the app uses anonymous, device‑based access and no personal account, uninstalling the app removes your local data and your device's link to past polls.

Children's privacy

Restaurantr is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will be reflected here on this page.
